A trusted name in the business.
Owners, Marco & Richard Carrier, were raised on a dairy farm with their ten brothers and one sister in a small French-Canadian town just over the US border. Their parents, Emile & Blanche, were hardworking, honest people that taught their children to lean on family to succeed. Like their other siblings they left their country with their deep rooted values and strong work ethic in search of the “American Dream” with the knowledge that family would be the backbone of their endeavors.
Over the course of their careers, the Carrier family established themselves in the trucking and the forest industry of New Hampshire and Maine. The Carrier group of companies now includes multiple trucking companies, chip mills, softwood and hardwood lumber mills in addition to P.R. Russell, Haynes Mulch and White Mountain Mulch. Each investment and acquisition played a vital role in connecting the group of companies to increase efficiency, quality, and customer service. The 2008 purchase of P.R. Russell based in Richmond, Maine was no exception.
The first step in growing P.R. Russell was relocating the main manufacturing facility to Brentwood, NH which is strategically located for distribution. Initial investments included a scale, dumper, volumetric scanner, a paved yard, and industry leading grinders which prepared P.R. Russell to continue growing in the bulk mulch market. By 2010 the owners realized that in order to continue servicing their customers’ needs they would need to invest in a bagging operation.
In an enormous leap of faith and a “build it and they will come” attitude they purchased two fully automated bagging lines. Since then P.R. Russell has expanded their bagged product line to include mulch and soils as well as contracting packaging for an array of customers big and small delivering throughout New England, the Mid-Atlantic and beyond.
Marco and Richard believe that the future of P.R. Russell is bright and under their leadership and wisdom, the second generation is tasked with bringing fresh ideas and a unique perspective. As an organization P.R. Russell is continually looking for the next opportunity to expand operations and remains committed to building a sustainable business that will flourish for many years to come for their families, employees, and customers.
“Coming together is the beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.” – Henry Ford
We’ve built state-of-the-art production facilities and an experienced crew around our industry-leading processing techniques.
No matter how big or small the task, we can count on Marco to lead the team with wisdom, ingenuity, and plenty of humor. His original analogies are nothing short of comic gold. His work life has given him an array of experience and on any given day you can find him meeting with customers, working on equipment, negotiating deals, or operating the excavator. His integrity and commitment to P.R. Russell is the foundation of our company and has created a purpose-driven company culture. When it’s time to disconnect from work Marco enjoys riding his motorcycle to outlying establishments to have a well deserved whiskey with the locals.
Richard is boisterous, confident, and undoubtedly accomplished. There isn’t a day, sometimes not even 30 minutes, that go by without seeing one of his trucks delivering raw bark to P.R. Russell. Throughout his career he has grown from 1 truck to over 175 trucks that primarily handle moving sawmill residues. Richard’s hold on raw bark has allowed P.R. Russell to offer a full line of high quality, bark-based products. He and Marco have shared a vision for the company since the beginning and they continue to work together to propel the company into the future. When we think of Richard we think go big or go home!
Kristen Carrier Mcrae
Kristen started as an on the road Sales Rep in 2010. She quickly realized that this industry was comprised of people she enjoyed working with and dedicated her efforts to improving customer service for her customers as well as working closely with her father on expanding the business. Eventually she made her way back into the office where she now handles office and sales management. She believes that work should be fun and makes it a habit to laugh often with her peers. Her favorite part of working at P.R. Russell is working alongside her father, mother, and sister-in-law and hopes that her children may also want to join the family business in the future.
Zach has been an integral part of the growth at P.R. Russell. He tackles each new endeavor, and there have been many over the years, with enthusiasm, humor, and dedication. His expertise in mulch and soil manufacturing has set the quality standard our customers have come to expect. He loves the pressure of busy season and somehow always “makes it happen”. He likes to keep all his co-workers on their toes, and they describe him as quick-witted, comical, and a hard worker. Aside from P.R. Russell Zach spends his time cheering on and coaching his kids sports teams, skiing, and camping with his family.
Ron has been dispatching trucks and procuring raw material since 2019. He quickly established himself as a great advocate for drivers and our customers alike. He’s an excellent problem solver, quick thinker, and never shies away from trying new things. He lives by “you get what you give” and so it’s no surprise that his co-workers describe him as dedicated, generous, and helpful. On the weekends he spends his time with his wife and daughter, Ella, fishing, and working on his house.
Holly is our bookkeeper extraordinaire. Since 2012 she’s been impressing us with the sheer amount of work she can handle while remaining calm, cool, collected, and witty! She loves the craziness of the busy season and enjoys working together as a “work family” to get the job done. Her co-workers describe her as dependable (you’ll see her early most mornings!), knowledgeable, and hardworking. When she’s not working she enjoys spending time with her two daughters Haylee and Makayla and watching them excel in their sports, snowboarding, or camping.
Amber started at P.R. Russell helping with odds and ends but we quickly realized that her thoughtful and creative spirit would lead her into sales. Since 2017 she has been focused on product knowledge, taken the initiative on marketing and social media, and developed genuine relationships with our customers. She goes above and beyond to understand her customers’ needs and then is steadfast in making it happen. Personally, Amber and her husband are busy raising their young family and hope to someday travel the US.
France is a Registered Nurse by training and decided to join P.R. Russell to help with sales 2019. Not really knowing what to expect she was pleasantly surprised to find that she thoroughly enjoyed working with our customers. Much like nursing, the relationships formed with others is what she enjoys most about her job. In addition to sales, she has also helped develop better safety and HR policies. Her perfectionism and perseverance keep the team focused on new projects that keep us striving to be the best. On the weekends she likes to spend time with her grandchildren, cooking, and gardening.
Pam has been working side by side with the owner, Marco, since 1995. Most recently she started working at P.R. Russell in HR and Safety. However, her experience goes far beyond those two fields and is a valued asset to the entire team be it professionally or personally. She keeps us motivated to always get the job done and done right. Outside of work Pam spends her weekends in her flower gardens expanding her knowledge in gardening or at the races with her family.
